Wedding Shower Cookies

June 6, 2010

A customer ordered several dozen sugar cookies as a gift for a friend’s wedding shower. I did mini wedding cakes and decorated them with three different designs.

They will be a great treat to serve at the wedding shower, but they would also be really cute wedding favors.  What a beautiful addition to a table scape it would be to have each cookie wrapped in individual bags and tied with ribbon that was personalized with the names of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding!  A sweet treat for guests to take home!

Birthday Favors Fit for Royalty!

May 13, 2010

When people leave a party do they really want a party favor in the form of a little trinket that is easily broken and destined to be thrown away?  No, of course not…they want FOOD…something edible and delicious!  It’s what we all want, but are afraid to admit! So that is what we do here at The Sugar Moon.  We provide the edilbe and delicious and you give your guests a take home reminder of what a fabulous party you threw!

Sugar cookies are the perfect take home gift and these little crowns have been a real favorite! The guest of honor picks out the colors and then it gets monogrammed and jeweled with sugar pearls!  Perfect for princesses of all ages! What color would yours be?

The Heart of The Sugar Moon

May 12, 2010

Sugar cookies continue to be the heart of what I do at the Sugar Moon.  I get at least a couple of orders a week for them.  This past week I had two really big orders which I had a lot of fun doing.  One of the orders was for a preschool Mother’s Day gift.  I ended up making enough daisies for an entire bouquet.  They turned out really cute! Here’s a few of them.

And this is what the final product looked like bagged, ribboned and ready to give to the mom’s.

A Sugar Moon Special Request

May 9, 2010

I advertise on my website that I take special requests and I definitely got one this week!  My customer had tasted one of my cookies at a friend’s house and decided he would call me to see if I could do something special for his wife for Mother’s Day.  His request…a chocolate dipped strawberry and pineapple arrangement!

The project was a learning process for me because I’d never done anything like this before and there are some techniques that you have to know to make it work.  But it turned out really cute and I know it’s very yummy because I sampled the product the entire time I was making it!  And best of all, it seemed to make my customer very happy, which is why I do what I do anyway!

More Sugar Cookies

March 26, 2010

Here at the Sugar Moon we make a lot of yummy things but what continues to be the big seller are my sugar cookies (thanks to my secret recipe)!  I had an order for an 8 year old birthday party. I think they turned out really cute.

I usually just ice them with a powdered sugar glaze but on these I used a royal icing instead.  It’s just easier to use when getting a little more creative with the decorating. The taste of the frosting is a little different, but still delicious.

I’m excited to do more of these kinds of cookies in different shapes.  They were really fun to make!

A Sugar Moon Easter Special

March 24, 2010

It’s time to start planning our Easter menu (less than 2 weeks left) and of course the only thing more important than the Ham is the dessert…or maybe the dessert is the most important thing.  It’s what we all look forward to and the right dessert can make such a big impact!  On The Sugar Moon website for April the specials are going to be an amazing carrot cake that I will post a picture of in a few days and these wonderful Carrot Cookies!

The cookie itself has real carrots in it and a hint of orange and the glaze is all orange juice (freshly squeezed of course) and powdered sugar with a little bit of orange zest.  What a wonderful compliment these cookies would be to any Easter dessert.  And wouldn’t the Easter Bunny be happy!  Plus, I think if you eat enough of them you can actually count them as a vegetable!

Can you Guess What Flavor?

March 2, 2010
This was an order I did for The Sugar Moon.  I made the cake and iced it, but besides wanting to add some pretty decorations to the top of the cake,  I think it’s a good idea to add a little visual queue as to what flavor your creations are.  When your brain anticipates a specific taste, it makes it that much more satisfying when your mouth gets it!  It’s like when you take a drink of milk, thinking it’s water.  It’s not that there is anything wrong with the milk, it’s just that your brain was registering that you were about to drink water and if makes the milk taste terrible!  I think it’s the same concept with flavor queues.

So of course you can guess the flavor of this cake.  The sugared cranberries and orange peel give it away!  Next time you make something yummy and the flavor isn’t obvious, consider adding a little touch of the thing that creates the flavor to use as decoration.  It will not only make your creations beautiful, but it will please your guests so much more!

These cookies were a popular item to order from The Sugar Moon this Valentine’s.

They are just a cute little sentiment of love and sweetness!

A Great Way to Say “Thank You”

February 6, 2010

My customer wanted to thank her husband’s office staff for throwing her a surprise baby shower.  Of course she could have just sent a thank you card, but a Thank You Cookie from The Sugar Moon is so much sweeter!

What a great way to show someone how thankful you are!  I think they turned out really cute.

These cookies are also available for Valentine’s Day.  On my website they are listed under February specials as “Conversation Heart Sugar Cookies”.  They are hearts (of course) and the imprints say: “Be Mine”, “I love You”  and “Kiss Me”.  Just a fun little idea for your Valentine!
